Forty high school seniors selected to play in showcase event

SIOUX FALLS — The girls and boys' Blue teams each recorded wins Friday night in the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association's All-Star Games in the Sanford Pentagon.

Forty high school seniors across the state were selected to play in the games.

Here are highlights from the games:

Girls Blue 86, Girls White 74

Caylin Kelly of Florence-Henry powered the Blue team to victory by scoring 17 points.

Claire Sheppard of Flandreau contributed 12 points and Mahli Abdouch 11 for the Blue.

The White team received 17 points from Emilee Fox of Mount Vernon-Plankinton, 12 each from Katie Vasecka of Tea Area and Avery Orth of Wessington Springs and 10 from Paige Kjerstad of Wall.

Boys Blue 114, Boys White 110

A 23-point performance from Harrisburg's Jacoby Mehrman led the way for the Blue team, which also received 17 points each from Tage Ortman of Canistota and Daniel Mitchell of Gregory and 14 each from Alec Squires of Sioux Valley and Gavin Soukup of Mitchell.

Other area players for the Blue included Lane Tvedt of Castlewood, nine points; Layne Cotton of Faulkton Area, eight points; and Dylon Rawdon of Watertown, five points.

Braeden VanBockern, another Harrisburg player, paced the White team with 26 points. Jasxon Wingert of Dakota Valley contributed 20 points, Jackson Schauer of Faith 14 and Tyson Stevenson of Hamlin, Kolt Koepsell of Howard and Porter Ihnen of Lennox scored 11 each.

Maxwell Engebretson of Sioux Valley chipped in with five points, Lane Tietz of Groton Area four and George Jensen of De Smet 3.
