Baker Mayfield signs 3-year deal with Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Former OU quarterback Baker Mayfield has agreed to a three-year deal for $100 million overall and $50 million guaranteed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to a report by ESPN on Sunday.

Mayfield helped Tampa Bay reach the NFC divisional round of the playoffs this past season and was selected to the Pro Bowl.

Tampa Bay went 9-8 in the regular season before beating the Philadelphia Eagles 32-9 in a wild-card game and ending the season with a 31-23 loss against the Detroit Lions.

He signed a one-year deal worth $4 million with Tampa Bay in March 2023. That came after a brief stint with the Los Angeles Rams.

Oklahoma State men's basketball falls to BYU

Fousseyni Traore scored 19 points and Jaxson Robinson added 17 to lead No. 20 BYU to an 85-71 victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday night in Provo, Utah.

Spencer Johnson had 14 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for the Cougars. BYU (22-9, 10-8 Big 12) earned its sixth straight home win and clinched the fifth seed in the upcoming Big 12 Tournament.

That represented a huge achievement for the Cougars, picked to finish 13th out of 14 teams in their inaugural Big 12 season.

Javon Small led Oklahoma State with 34 points, including 29 of his team’s 42 in the second half. The Cowboys (12-19, 4-14) dropped their fifth consecutive game and will be the 13th seed in the league tournament.

OU softball trounces Iowa State

Five OU players homered and 13 of 14 hitters reached base as the top-ranked Sooners softball team beat Iowa State 14-1 on Sunday afternoon at Love’s Field in Norman, securing a conference-opening weekend sweep.

OU (22-1, 3-0 Big 12) outscored Iowa State 29-3 in the three-game series.

Ella Parker recorded her first collegiate three-hit game in Sunday’s win, going 3 for 3 with a home run and two RBI. Tiare Jennings, Kinzie Hansen and Quincee Lilio each had one homer and three RBI, while Cydney Sanders had one home run and two RBI.

OU’s showing at the plate backed a solid outing from left-hander Kierston Deal. The sophomore extended her scoreless streak to 22 innings, covering three shutout frames of one-hit ball and improving to 5-0 on the season.

Oklahoma State softball edges Baylor

The fourth-ranked Oklahoma State softball team scored one run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to defeat No. 19 Baylor 3-2 Sunday at Getterman Stadium in Waco, Texas.

Oklahoma State scored a run in the sixth after a ground ball from Tallen Edwards brought Macy Graf home.

In the seventh, Caroline Wang led off with a double to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. Rosie Davis moved pinch runner Scotland David to third who immediately scored after a ground ball from Micaela Wark that tied the game at two. Megan Bloodworth put a line drive into right field to score Tia Warsop from second to put the Cowgirls ahead 3-2.

College baseball: Carson Benge led Oklahoma State to a late-game comeback win over Mercer on Sunday at O’Brate Stadium in Stillwater as the Cowboys posted a 4-3 victory to clinch the series. Benge did it all in the win, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI and also earning the first save of his career with a scoreless ninth inning.

● OU baseball completed a three-game conference-opening sweep of UCF with a 14-2 run-rule win Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman. OU's offense was explosive throughout Sunday’s contest, registering 18 hits with a trio of three-run home runs.
