Former Iowa State star Tyrese Haliburton named to U.S. Olympic basketball team roster
Former Iowa State basketball star Tyrese Haliburton will be a U.S. Olympian.
The Oshkosh, Wisconsin native who starred for the Cyclones in 2018-19 and 2019-20, was one of 12 players USA Basketball selected Wednesday to play in the 2024 Paris Olympics. He's the second former Cyclones men’s basketball player selected to a U.S. Olympic team.
Haliburton is on a star-studded U.S. team that includes Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns), LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers), Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat), Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns), Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Anthony Davis (Los Angeles Lakers), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers), Jrue Holiday (Boston Celtics), Kawhi Leonard (L.A. The U.S. men have competed in basketball at the Olympics 19 times, winning 16 gold medals, one silver and two bronze.
Jeff Grayer represented Iowa State and helped the U.S. to a Bronze medal in the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
Haliburton was the 12th pick of the Sacramento Kings in the 2020 NBA Draft. He was traded to the Indiana Pacers in February 2022.
