Former CSU offensive lineman Sam Carlson signed by Denver Broncos

Sam Carlson is returning to the Centennial State.

The Wellington, Colorado native was cut by the Tennessee Titans during training camp, but was signed by the Denver Broncos Thursday, the team announced.

Carlson went undrafted this past spring, but was in contact with multiple teams following the draft, eventually deciding to sign a free-agent contract with the Titans.

He made it through the Titans' rookie mini-camp and reported for training camp last week, but was cut not long after.

At Colorado State, Carlson was a two-year starter at right tackle, blocking for 4,000-yard passer Garrett Grayson and 1,200-yard rusher Dee Hart in 2014, paving the way for CSU's offense to rewrite the school offensive record book.

In 2015, Carlson was part of an offense that ranked third in the Mountain West with 417.0 yards per game, and was among the nation’s leaders for tackles for loss allowed, sacks allowed, third-down conversions, first downs and red-zone offense.

NFL teams must cut their rosters to 75 players by August 30 and down to 53 by Sept. 3 with the regular season starting Sept. 8.

Carlson is one of 13 former Colorado State players in NFL training camps, and becomes the fourth former CSU player (Shaq Barrett, Kapri Bibbs, Ty Sambrailo) to camp with the Broncos this year.
