Another college football game has been called off because of Hurricane Irma.

Indiana was set to host Florida International on Saturday, but both schools announced Monday night that the game has been canceled. FIU canceled all athletics events through Sunday with Saturday’s game in Bloomington included. FIU said the game has “been deferred to a future date.”

In a university release, Indiana said athletic director Fred Glass agreed with FIU’s decision to cancel the game “after a series of discussions with FIU officials” that began Sunday.

“Glass and FIU Athletic Director Pete Garcia have been in regular communication since Sunday about the situation, and with FIU classes being canceled, several FIU players and coaches being from the South Florida area, along with the considerable logistical hurdles to overcome in traveling to Bloomington, the decision to cancel the game was made late on Monday evening,” IU’s release said.

“The two programs plan to schedule a game between the schools at Memorial Stadium at some point in the future. All involved with IU Athletics offer their thoughts and prayers to Florida International University and all who live in areas devastated by Hurricane Irma.”

Indiana is now “working diligently” to find an opponent to play the Hoosiers in Bloomington on Oct. 7, the team’s previously scheduled bye week.

Earlier Monday, UCF announced its game against Georgia Tech would not be played. UCF’s Week 2 game against Memphis was also canceled because of the storm, as were the Week 2 games for Miami, Florida, Florida State and USF. Additionally, the Miami vs. Florida State game originally scheduled for Sept. 16 has been moved to Oct. 7.
