Florida football has a new look on the field

Gators fans should notice something different when they file into Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday to watch Florida take on Florida Atlantic. Whenever the Gators score, they’ll be running into a white endzone.

The new endzones and field outline will match the white pants and jerseys the Gators are set to wear for the season opener. The endzone will be outlined in orange to match the team’s helmets as well. The lettering in the endzone will be painted blue by Saturday.

This isn’t the first field re-design under coach Dan Mullen. Florida has had orange and blue endzones in the last three years. Part of that is the intimidation factor. A whiteout in the swamp along with the new field design should help make a Week 1 win even more impactful on the team and fanbase.

Florida has a grass field, and the grounds crew works hard to maintain it throughout the season. Jason Smith is in charge of field maintenance at UF and he expects the field to hold up well through the season.

White, orange and blue may not be the only colors he uses when setting up the field come November. He told The Athletic that some green colorant helps the rest of the field look good around that time of year.
