Final out from Alexis Diaz's 50th save thrown into GABP crowd by Reds OF Will Benson
If you caught the ball Cincinnati Reds outfielder Will Benson tossed into the crowd after the final out of Saturday's 7-5 win against the Los Angeles Angels, closer Alexis Diaz might want it back.
Diaz, a 2023 National League All-Star, recorded his 50th career save and third of this season by retiring all three batters he faced in the 9th inning. And as Bally Sports Ohio studio host Brian Giesenschlag and analyst Sam LeCure discussed after the game, the camera caught Diaz gesturing to Benson that he was hoping to keep the ball Benson caught in right field for the third out.
"And that's so rare, I feel like, for an outfield - or anybody to just kind of throw the ball away," LeCure said during the broadcast.

The Orioles' Craig Kimbrel can relate. From Jake Rill via Twitter/X:
#Orioles LF Colton Cowser accidentally threw Craig Kimbrel’s 422nd save ball at the end of the game.
Cowser went out and found it — in the fountain at Kauffman Stadium. It had sank to the bottom.— Jake Rill (@JakeDRill) April 21, 2024
