Falcons pick up A.J. Terrell’s fifth-year option

The Atlanta Falcons picked up the fifth-year option on cornerback A.J. Terrell just as Day 2 of the 2023 NFL draft began Friday evening. Terrell, 24, was drafted in the first round by Atlanta in 2020.

Scouts criticized the pick three years ago, but Terrell quickly proved his doubters wrong with his stellar play on the field. Over three seasons, Terrell has 149 solo tackles, 32 passes defended and four interceptions. In 2021, Terrell was named second-team All-Pro.

So how much will Terrell’s extension cost? The Falcons will owe the former Clemson star $12.34 million in 2024. Picking up the option was a no-brainer for the Falcons, and this move just keeps him in Atlanta for another season.
