Everything you need to know about the 2024 IHSA boys wrestling state series

The 2024 IHSA wrestling state series kicked off for the girls last weekend, and now the boys hit the mats, many with the ultimate goal of going all the way.

And several from the Rockford area have a shot to get there.

"I needed this, and I need to go to state," said East's Joe Young, who won a NIC-10 title at 120 last weekend. "I've got a conference title, now I want more. This (the conference meet) was more like a warmup for regionals. I feel ready now."

The last Rob Sherrill rankings through Illinois Matmen were just released as the postseason arrives, and the table is set all across the state.

So here is everything you need to know headed into the boys state series for wrestling, including what, when and who to watch:

What's coming

The postseason kicks off with the IHSA regionals this weekend, followed by sectionals and state. Last Friday, nine girls advanced out of regionals and into sectionals. Now it's the boys' turn.

"I always wanted to see what it would be like in 3A, and I knew I was capable of wrestling up here," said junior T.J. Silva, who recently moved and went from Class 1A Dakota to 3A Hononegah. "Now I'll really get to show where I belong."
