TEAM OF THE WEEK

Elkhorn

For the first time this season, a program from the Southern Lakes Conference takes the team of the week honors. Elkhorn has won nine of its last 10 games, including the last four straight and two last week against Janesville Craig (57-47) and at Westosha Central (47-28) to win this week's award.

The one loss for the Elks in that 10-game stretch came at the hands of defending SLC champion Union Grove (54-51) to put them a game behind the Broncos in this year's title chase, but they'll get another shot at them on Feb. 1 at Union Grove. If conference player of the year contender Kyrin Lile continues to average 21.4 points on 54.9 percent shooting, the Elks should be right there in the end in the race for the championship. The super sophomore has scored in double figures in all 13 games this season, including seven 20-plus point performances and 11 straight double-doubles dating back to Nov. 21.

COMING UP

Germantown at Brookfield East, 7 p.m. Tuesday: The two best teams in the Greater Metro Conference the last few seasons will duke it out once more in Brookfield on Tuesday. With a win, Germantown can tie the Spartans atop the conference at 7-1 in league play.

Living Word Lutheran at Messmer, 6 p.m. Wednesday: Living Word Lutheran will look to continue its undefeated run to start the season with a trip to Messmer. The Bishops are struggling near the bottom of the Midwest Classic Conference standings, but possess the second-leading scorer in the state in freshman Destiny Weaver (36.4 points per game).

Pewaukee at Pius XI, 7 p.m. Friday: The Lady Popes trail the Pirates by just a game in the Woodland West standings at 4-1 so far this season, but the back-to-back Division 2 state runner-ups have been an unstoppable machine in their 13-0 start.

Brown Deer at Whitnall, 7 p.m. Friday: Speaking of the Woodland, two teams in the East that are having some solid seasons will face off on Friday night. Brown Deer has won nine of its first 11 games and has started 5-0 in Woodland East play. Whitnall has won three of its last four and sit at 4-1 in the Woodland East.

Oak Creek at Kenosha Tremper, 7 p.m. Friday: Franklin leads the charge in the Southeast Conference once again this season, but two teams on the prowl could gain some ground with a win here. Oak Creek and Kenosha Tremper both sit at 4-1 in SEC play and if Franklin (5-0) trips up at Kenosha Indian Trail on Tuesday, the winner of this one could sit level with the Sabers atop the conference with a victory of its own Tuesday.
