Elite 8 bound: Westport punches ticket to quarterfinals for third year in a row

WESTPORT — The Westport boys soccer team is once again Elite.

The No. 8 Wildcats punched their ticket to the MIAA Elite 8 for the third consecutive season after blanking No. 24 Hull, 8-0, in Thursday's Division 5 Sweet 16 game at Westport High School.

The undefeated Wildcats (19-0-1) will face top-seeded Sutton on the road Saturday, beginning at 3 p.m.

"We struggled to control the central midfield for an extensive period of time during the first half," Westport head coach Chris Parker said. "So, at halftime, I challenged my three central midfielders Tommy Bernard, Ben Novo, and Landen Novo to be better. They responded with a dominant second half of play, which allowed us to put the game away."
