DAY ONE / THURSDAY REVIEW
New Paltz 4, Buffalo State 3: New Paltz scored twice in bottom of sixth inning and held off seventh-inning charge by Buffalo State. Jaycee Filancia had a double and two RBI. Sydney Waldon (17-1) won in relief.
Cortland 7, Fredonia 1: Cortland jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning. McKenna Barry had a double and three RBI. Winning pitcher Kim Westenberg had a single, double and two RBI, fanning eight in a four-hitter to move to 11-3.
Oneonta 5, Geneseo 1: Oneonta extended a 2-0 lead with three runs in the fifth inning. Delaney Haley, Top three batters Adriana Fiori and Julia Serena each had RBIs, as did Sophia Mangone and Victoria Hussey. Emily Brown (10-5) got the win.
Buffalo State 8, Fredonia 1: A six-spot in the top of the second inning propelled Buffalo State. Katie Pysczzek had two hits and three RBI and winning reliever Izzy Pezdek had two singles, a double and two RBI for the winners. Fredonia was eliminated
New Paltz 5, Geneseo 0: New Paltz scored once in the third and twice in the fourth and fifth innings. Jaycee Filancia had a double and RBI, Sydney Bonewit a single and double and Lauren Serrao had two singles and two RBI for the Hawks. Geneseo eliminated
TOURNEY PREVIEW
Regular-season champion SUNY New Paltz will host the SUNY Athletic Conference softball tournament from Thursday through Sunday at Mary Gray Deane Field. It is a double-elimination event.
Tickets are $10 for adults (13-plus), $5 for children 5-12 years old and free for all SUNYAC students with a student identification. It is a cash-only event.
On Thursday, New Paltz (31-5) hosts No. 6 Buffalo State at 8:30 a.m. No. 2 Cortland hosts No. 5 Fredonia at 10:30 a.m.; No. 3 Geneseo hosts No. 4 Oneonta at 12:30 p.m. The losers of the first two games meet in an elimination game at 2:30 p.m.
Friday’s action starts with the Buffalo State-New Paltz winner taking on the Oneonta-Geneseo loser at 10 a.m. Following will the winners of Thursday’s second and third games at noon. There will also be games at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., the bracket adjusting with the number of surviving teams.

On Saturday, there will be games at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The championship game should be at noon on Sunday.
This season New Paltz was 2-0 versus Buffalo State, Cortland, Oneonta and Fredonia and 1-1 versus Geneseo.
Cortland (.352), Geneseo (.310), Oneonta (.309) and New Paltz (.307) are the league’s top four hitting teams. New Paltz (1.45 ERA), Cortland (3.24), Geneseo (3.68) and Buffalo State (3.89) are the league’s top pitching staffs.
The weather is expected to be cloudy on Thursday, a bit rainy on Friday and partly cloudy on Saturday – the schedule is subject to change.
The games will be webcast via the NPhawks.com website and SUNYAC website.

For New Paltz, O’Brien ranks sixth in league hitting with a .419 average, with 21 RBI. Other top hitters included Jaycee Filancia (.417, 20 RBI), Jillian Shelbourne (.347, 39 RBI) and Rometo (.339). Lindsay Roman is 14-4 with a 1.13 ERA and Sydney Waldon is 16-1 with a 1.74 ERA.
