Eagles TE Dallas Goedert ruled out with reported forearm fracture after awkward tackle in win over Cowboys

Dallas Goedert walked directly to the locker room after an awkward tackle late in the third quarter on Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Eagles lost tight end Dallas Goedert early on Sunday afternoon in their 28-23 win over the Dallas Cowboys due to a forearm injury.

Goedert, late in the third quarter at Lincoln Financial Field, caught a pass and broke up the left sideline for a 28-yard gain. He was brought down by safety Markquese Bell as Bell latched onto Goedert’s right arm as he tackled him — which made for an awkward landing.

Goedert remained on the field for quite some time after the tackle, clearly in pain, before leaving directly for the locker room. He did not return. The team initially said he was questionable to return with a forearm injury after undergoing X-rays during the game, but ruled him out officially soon after.

While an MRI is set to confirm the injury and other further damage on Monday, Goedert reportedly sustained a fracture in his forearm, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. He is likely to miss time, and could end up on injured reserve.

Goedert had 50 receiving yards on three catches when he left the game. The 28-year-old entered Sunday with 360 yards and two touchdowns on 36 catches this season, his sixth with the Eagles.

Goedert’s catch got the Eagles well inside the red zone. Just three plays later, Jalen Hurts hit A.J. Brown for a four-yard touchdown. That put the Eagles up 28-17 and marked their second unanswered touchdown after trailing by three points at the break.

The Cowboys, after being stopped just inches from the end zone, cut the lead to five points with a little more than six minutes left in the game after Dak Prescott hit Jalen Tolbert for a seven-yard touchdown but failed to get the two-point conversion. The Cowboys had two more chances in Philadelphia territory to take the lead, but the Eagles stopped them on fourth down twice — including once after welcoming the Cowboys back down the field in the final minute after a string of penalties — to secure the five-point win.

Prescott finished throwing 29-of-44 for 375 yards and three touchdowns. CeeDee Lamb had 192 yards on 11 catches, and Tony Pollard had 51 rushing yards on 12 carries.

Hurts went 17-of-23 for 207 yards with two touchdowns in the win for the Eagles. Brown finished with 66 yards and a touchdown on seven catches, and D'Andre Swift had 43 yards on 18 carries. The Eagles are now 8-1 on the year and will head into their bye week next week, which should help minimize Goedert's time recovering. They'll go up against the Kansas City Chiefs next on Nov. 20.
