Eagles execute in ground attack against Seminoles

Oct. 5—SMITHVILLE — Tupelo Christian's Jon Scott and Brewer Bailey combined for six rushing touchdowns on the night to help lead the Eagles to a dominant 51-21 win over Smithville on Thursday.

"There was a lot of passion from both teams, which made it hard to control at times, but I think that we finished up really well and did what we needed to do as far as moving the ball and running it," TCPS coach Brad Kimberlin said.

The Eagles (4-2) scored on all four of their possessions in the first half, with Bailey and Scott finding the end zone on touchdown runs of 2 and 4 yards, respectively, and Bailey ended the half with a 12-yard run to put TCPS up 24-7.

After TCPS forced a turnover on downs and taking over at the 41-yard line to start the third, Scott picked up his second touchdown of the night, breaking free for a 59-yard touchdown to put his team up 31-7.

"Jon's just a hard runner," Kimberlin said. "He keeps his head down, has good ball control and balance, and people bounce off of him. Once he finds an opening, he can roll."

Chandler Brunetti helped the Seminoles (2-5) cut into the TCPS lead with a 25-yard touchdown completion to Barker O'Brian, but the Eagles followed that score with a 13-play drive capped off by a 14-yard touchdown run by Bailey to start the fourth.

The Eagles' lead grew to 44-13 after Logan Harbison snagged his second interception of the night and took it 26 yards for a touchdown.

Scott capped off his night on the ground by scoring on a 6-yard run with 4:13 remaining in the game for his third touchdown of the night.

"My O-line did a really good job of executing, and we had some really good play calling from Coach K," Scott said. "These guys just came out here and executed, and I just ran the ball hard."
