Chicago White Sox right-handed starting pitcher Dylan Cease, the 2022 American League Cy Young runner-up, has been the subject of trade discussions, and Jon Morosi reports that the Cincinnati Reds, Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers are among interested teams.

Morosi reported late last month that the Reds were among teams active in trade conversations for Cleveland Guardians starter Shane Bieber and Tampa Bay Rays starter Tyler Glasnow.

Cease led the league in starts with 33 last season, but his 7-9 record and 4.58 ERA were not as strong as his 2022 campaign (14-8, 2.20 ERA) or his 2021 numbers (13-7, 3.91 ERA).

What to know about Cease, who turns 28 on December 28:

Cease is arbitration-eligible, and can't become a free agent until after the 2025 season.

Cease has two years of club control remaining.

He earned $5.7 million in 2023, and Spotrac estimates his 2024 salary as $8.3 million.

Cease has been durable over the past three seasons, making 97 starts.

Cease also started 12 games during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

He has pitched at least 165 innings each of the past three seasons for the White Sox, and has avoided major injuries since undergoing Tommy John surgery to repair his UCL after he signed with the Chicago Cubs in 2014.

Cease was dominant in a 2021 win against the Reds.

In a start May 4 of that season, Cease allowed just one hit with three walks and 11 strikeouts in six scoreless innings in a 9-0 White Sox win.

Cease also recorded his first career big-league hit, and added two more hits. Those are the only three hits Cease has had in eight career plate appearances.

In his only other career start in 2020 against the Reds, Cease walked seven and allowed three earned runs, lasting just three innings.

Cease was a sixth-round pick of the Chicago Cubs in the 2014 MLB draft.

The Reds selected pitcher Tejay Antone one round earlier.

The top two picks in the 2014 draft did not reach the majors, though the first round did include Carlos Rodon (White Sox), former Middletown High School standout Kyle Schwarber (Cubs), Aaron Nola (Phillies), Trea Turner (Padres) and Matt Chapman (Athletics).

In 2017, Cease was traded by the Cubs with Bryant Flete, Matt Rose and Eloy Jiménez to the White Sox for José Quintana.

Cease has worn No. 84 throughout his MLB career.

Pitcher Jared Solomon last wore No. 84 for the Reds in 2022.

Prince Fielder wore No. 84 for the Texas Rangers.
