Dustin Johnson may have crushed the longest drive in PGA Tour history
It’s fairly common for Dustin Johnson to hit a few rockets off the tee. Johnson currently ranks 13th in the PGA Tour in driving distance. On Friday at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, he lived up to his reputation for crushing drives by launching a missile on the par-5 12th hole that traveled further than any drive off the tee in the PGA Tour’s ShotLink era.
DJ went long. REAL LONG.
489 yards.
Statistics do not officially count in this event. But the longest drive on TOUR in the ShotLink era (2003) is 476 yards by @Love3d. pic.twitter.com/EHgMscMhdt

By 13 yards, Johnson beat Davis Love III’s 476 yard drive in 2004. If a club drives a ball 489 yards in the forest does it make a sound? We may never know. Johnson’s record won’t be etched into the PGA Tour record book because it occurred during match play. And because the Golf Channel didn’t catch the drive for some reason, it appears this drive will only live on as a suburban golf legend.
