T-M's Gavin Lopez voted Driscoll Children's Hospital Fan Favorite Athlete of the Year

After three rounds of voting, Tuloso-Midway swimmer Gavin Lopez has been chosen as the 2023-24 Driscoll Children's Hospital Caller-Times Fan Favorite High School Athlete of the Year.

Lopez, a star sophomore for the Warriors, led through all rounds of voting. Voting totals reset after each week and the Athlete of the Year process began with three dozen weekly winners from the entire school year.

He won four gold medals at the District 16-4A swim meet, capturing individual crowns in the 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly and as part of the Warriors' 200 medley relay and 200 free relay. Lopez competed in four events at the UIL State Swim Meet, capturing medals as part of T-M's 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.

Lopez received 73,360 of the 185,001 votes cast, which was 39.7% of all votes received.

Other finalists included Falfurrias' Nathaniel Jaramillo, Veterans Memorial's Brandon Munoz and Lachlan Prouatt, Calallen's Coll Carroll, Flour Bluff's boys 1,600 relay, Hebbronville's Sonny Trevino and Beeville Jaron Banda.

Voting was broken down over three weeks beginning May 28 and ran from Tuesday through Friday each week with voting wrapping up every Friday. Vote totals reset after every round of voting.

The athletes represent schools of every size across the Coastal Bend.
