Drake Maye ranked second QB, third overall by Mel Kiper Jr.

Besides Week 1, it’s the most exciting time of year to be an NFL fan: Playoffs are here.

The Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles are all in, just like people expected before the season. The Houston Texans, Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns are all also in.

Wait – did you say the Texans, Lions AND Browns? Three teams who’ve experienced more failure than success in the last two decades?

Yes – with each of them expected to turn some heads. I think a Lions-Browns Super Bowl would be great for America, but there’s no guarantees in the league.

It’s also not too early to start thinking about next year’s NFL Draft, which will likely see former UNC quarterback Drake Maye taken in the Top 5. He’ll likely be joined by USC quarterback Caleb Williams, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. and LSU’s Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels.

Tuesday morning on ESPN morning talk show Get Up, NFL Draft Analyst Mel. Kiper Jr. ranked Maye as his second quarterback and third overall prospect.

Like the entire UNC football team, Maye started hot and ended on a cold spell. He finished his third year in Chapel Hill with 3,605 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

There’s a case Maye should be ranked ahead of Williams, but these are simply just pre-draft rankings. While these groupings give a solid idea of where players will land up, teams don’t select based solely on them.

Really, any one of Williams, Maye, Penix or Daniels could be taken first overall. This is one of the best quarterback prospect groups in quite some time.

Where will Maye end up?
