Dolphins top Panthers and here is The Tape Don't Lie, a Review by Joe Schad

MIAMI GARDENS - The Dolphins beat the Panthers 42-21 on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.

Miami is 5-1 but now we skip to the good part.

On the horizon: Philadelphia and Kansas City.

In the distance: Jets, Jets, Cowboys, Ravens, Bills.

Is 11-6 the most likely Dolphins' record? 12-5? That range seems about right.

There are still naysayers, as they say, and that's good.

Plenty of motivation for these Dolphins.

Many coaches believe "The Tape Don't Lie," and that list includes Mike McDaniel.

"The game tape survives time," McDaniel says.

What did we notice in Miami's defeat of the Panthers?

All-time great offense

Tua Tagovailoa is on pace to pass for 5,315 yards this season.

His accuracy is uncanny. Miami will have to consider a hefty extension if he makes it through the season healthy.

Tyreek Hill is on pace for 2,306 receiving yards this season.

Would Hill really retire after the 2025 or 2026 season?

He's under contract in 2026, but for $56 million, with an $11 dead cap hit.

The Dolphins may feel this window of championship opportunity, with Hill, is 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Because nothing is certain after that.

And, as Shannon Sharpe pointed out this week, Hill is the most valuable non-QB in the league.

The trio of Tua, Hill and Mike McDaniel cannot be stopped by any defense in the league, even, say, Cleveland.

Schad column: With backflipping, camera phone wielding Tyreek Hill and MVP leader Tua, Dolphins never been more fun

Miami 2023 is one of the great offenses in NFL history and they all deserve credit.

Tua for MVP? Hill for offensive player of the year? McDaniel for coach of the year?

I get it. I get it. Let's see how the Philadelphia and Kansas City games go.

But it's impossible to think scoring will be an issue.

Raheem Mostert's toughness

Mostert broke 10 tackles on Sunday, several in memorable fashion.

We all know Mostert is one of the fastest running backs in the NFL.

But Mostert's desire to secure every yard remotely possible makes him much better than advertised.

Raheem Mostert Why the NFL touchdowns leader is in line for more

Who needs a first-round back?

Mostert's chip-on-the-shoulder mindset as an undrafted veteran serves him so well.

At 31, he's got plenty left in the tank.

Just take a look at his hurdle near the goal line on Sunday.

And speaking of power backs, it a shame Chris Brooks injured an ankle on Sunday.

His fourth quarter run in which he tossed aside and barreled past Panthers was fun to watch.

Certainly it was an Angry Run candidate.

Bradley Chubb comes alive again

This is the second game of six in which Chubb showed his ceiling and potential.

On Carolina's second offensive play, Chubb overpowered a tackle and drilled Bryce Young.

Later, Chubb has a second sack negated by a defensive penalty.

Chubb wants to do well. He has known he can do better.

Last Friday, I told Chubb it was Friday the 13th and asked if he had any good luck superstitions.

No, Chubb said, adding that perhaps he needs to add one.

Whatever Chubb did before Sunday's game, he should try again before Sunday Night Football at Philadelphia.

The Dolphins defense is tied for 6th in the NFL in pressure percentage and 3rd in sacks, despite being only 18th in blitz percentage.

In order for this to continue, Chubb and Jaelan Phillips need to create consistent pressure in 1-on-1 matchups with opposing tackles.

Kudos, Liam Eichenberg

You know who deserves some props for Sunday?

Liam Eichenberg.

Eichenberg has received some deserved criticism for past performances at tackle and guard and yes, center, where he played the position for the first time ever in Miami's previous game.

But on Sunday, Eichenberg allowed 0 sacks, 0 pressures and 0 hurries in 33 pass pro snaps.

After the game, Tua Tagovailoa and Mike McDaniel complimented Eichenberg.

He communicated better. And was more assertive. Well done.

And yes, whatever the Dolphins are paying offensive line coach Butch Barry, he deserves a raise.

Six games. Six sacks. Amazing turnaround.

Christian Wilkins impactful

Wilkins had two sacks, giving him 3.5 and a pace of 10 for the season.

Wilkins wants badly to prove he deserves to be one of the highest-paid interior linemen in the NFL, whether that payday come from Miami or somebody else.

It was interesting that defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said he was rusty early in the season after missing time due to a contract-related "hold-in."

Wilkins said Monday that's Fangio's opinion.

About to get tougher 'It's about time the Dolphins play some meaningful games'

We'll be curious to see how NFL teams, including Miami, view his scheme fit with Miami now and/or the scheme fit with their defenses.

Wilkins has requisite power, footwork and motor to be a Top 5 interior lineman.

It seems he's motivated to show it.

This & That

Kudos to Dolphins safety Elijah Campbell for being all over Carolina's fake punt attempt in the second quarter. With Miami trailing 14-7 at that point, it really contributed to the momentum swing in his teams' favor... Undrafted rookie tight end Julian Hill is such a good blocker. He did a great job on Raheem Mostert's 49-yard run in the second quarter... The Dolphins defense is tied for last in the NFL with only two interceptions - one by Xavien Howard and one by Emmanuel Ogbah. Perhaps the return of Jalen Ramsey next month will be pivotal... The Dolphins pass/run ratio was 60/40 in 2022. The Dolphins pass/run ratio is 54/46 in 2023.
