Who will the Dolphins take in the NFL Draft? Latest mock draft for Miami heading into 2nd round

The Miami Dolphins were busy during free agency, trying to plug holes after losing Christian Wilkins, Rob Hunt and Andrew Van Ginkel, to name a few. Even after selecting edge rusher Chop Robinson in the first round, they still have needs for a third receiver, on the offensive line and at defensive tackle. How will they fill them in the NFL Draft?

When does six equal nine? When Chris Grier is running the Dolphins' draft. Miami started with six picks, but dealin' Chris rolls up his sleeves, makes three trades during the draft, and comes away with nine players, five on offense, four on defense, to address most needs. (Filling one nagging hole becomes a source of frustration, as you'll see.)

Who did the Dolphins draft? Tracking every Miami selection in 2024 NFL Draft

Round 1, Pick 21: Chop Robinson, edge, Penn State

Having seen several edge rushers come off the board, the Dolphins selected Robinson. Even when Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb are healthy, having three quality edge rushers is never a bad thing.

Round 3, Pick 88: Cooper Beebe, guard, Kansas State

Grier puts in a call to Green Bay, kisses the No. 55 overall pick goodbye but lands three picks in return, including two in the third round. Grier knows Rob Hunt will be missed, so he scoops up the Big 12 offensive lineman of the year who has been called a bulldozer.

Round 3, Pick 100: Cade Stover, tight end, Ohio State

Grier originally had the 91st pick in the deal with the Packers but took a look around, considered Ohio State DL Michael Hall, but called Washington and landed picks No. 100 and 139 for his troubles. Stover was a finalist for the Mackey Award as the top TE and is considered more of a receiver, but the Dolphins take a shot, thinking he'll be a better blocker than Mike Gesicki (and therefore work in Mike McDaniel's offense).

Round 5, Pick 139: Brenden Rice, receiver, USC

A buzz comes over South Florida, and a sigh over the Bay Area, as the Dolphins land Jerry Rice's son.

Round 5, Pick 143: Caedan Wallace, offensive tackle, Penn State

How did the Dolphins end up at 143? They didn't like the landscape at 126 — the defensive tackle talent they've been hoping for continues to elude them. Grier throws a pizza box in frustration. McDaniel is relieved to see the pizza box was empty. Grier then gets on the horn with Atlanta, offering 126 for 143 and 187. It seemed they had a deal, but the Falcons, just to be difficult, hold out until Grier tosses in 241 to get them out of his hair. Wallace can play guard or tackle and is polished. Grier looks around, wondering who ate the last slice.

Round 5, Pick 158: Cedric Gray, linebacker, North Carolina

All-ACC 'backer made 121 tackles last year, with 11 for loss. Dolphins will like his speed.

Round 6, Pick 184: Beaux Limmer, center, Arkansas

Strong 302-pounder excels at run blocking but has to work on pass protection or he won't be snapping to Tua Tagovailoa.

Round 6, Pick 187: Darius Muasau, linebacker, UCLA

Get ready to hear more talk about this guy's outstanding motor than you will at the upcoming Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.

Round 6, Pick 198: Beau Brade, safety, Maryland

Nice sixth-round bookends, a Beaux and a Beau. Good ball skills.
