Doc Rivers reveals what he would like to see more of from Shake Milton

CAMDEN, N.J.–The Philadelphia 76ers are still working out the kinks to begin the 2022-23 season as they are sitting at 4-6 and they are looking to get through this tough injury stretch they are currently on.

One way to do that would be to get some more consistent bench play. With James Harden out, the Sixers will need to go deeper into their bench which means it offers others more of an opportunity.

One of those players is Shake Milton who figures to be in the rotation for the time being until Harden comes back. He played 17 minutes in Friday’s loss to the New York Knicks and he had six points off the bench while committing a turnover. He had four turnovers in the previous game against the Washington Wizards as well.

As the Sixers move forward, coach Doc Rivers revealed what he would like to see more out of Milton.

“Just more solid play defensively, really,” said Rivers at practice on Sunday. “I thought Shake struggled a little bit on the defensive end. He got beat off the dribble, middle drives. He’s gotta take care of the ball, he turned it over too.”

Not only is Milton going to get an opportunity, but Furkan Korkmaz received an opportunity as well. Korkmaz played 11 minutes as the two of them look to earn a consistent spot in the rotation.

“Him and Furk,” Rivers continued. “I thought Furk had a really good showing overall. Down the stretch, he shot the floater where he probably should have shot the 3, and if he drove, he drives to kick out, we showed that on film. I mean, I’m happy with both of them right now.”

The Sixers will play host to the New York Knicks on Monday looking to put a halt to a 2-game skid.
