The Detroit Red Wings have eight exhibition games to sort out their roster decisions for the 2023-24 season.
The preseason schedule was released Thursday; the regular-season slate is expected to be released in July. The Wings begin their exhibition season on Sept. 26 against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Little Caesars Arena.
While veterans use exhibition games to get their timing fine-tuned, it's generally the younger players who are fun to watch. Will forward Marco Kasper, the team's first-round pick from 2022, make the team? He got into one game this past spring before a lower-body injury waylaid plans to have him play more.
Defenseman Simon Edvinsson, the Wings' first pick in 2021, also auditioned for a full-time job this spring, and will have to show where he belongs come fall.

There are four home and four away games.
The Wings play at the Washington Capitals on Sept. 28, then host the Capitals on Sept. 30. The Chicago Blackhawks are at LCA on Oct. 1, and host the Wings in Chicago on Oct. 3. The next day, the Wings are at Pittsburgh, and then comes the usual miniseries with the Toronto Maple Leafs, who host the Wings on Oct. 6 and are at LCA on Oct. 7.
Ticket information will be released at a later date, according to the Wings.
