Dell Rapids, Elk Point-Jefferson and Tabor remain in hunt for title after Monday's games

REDFIELD — Three teams remain in contention for a state championship after Monday's games in the state Class B American Legion Baseball tournament.

Tabor (21-6) opened the day with a 5-3 win over host Redfield (22-9) and Elk Point-Jefferson (20-11) followed with a 5-4 nine-inning win over Dell Rapids (28-3).

Elk Point-Jefferson and Tabor play at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with the winner to face Dell Rapids for the championship about 60 minutes after the completion of the first game.

Redfield led 3-0 after 5 1/2 innings in the opener before Tabor erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Tabor tied the game with a walk and two hit batsmen with the bases loaded and Easton Mudder followed with a two-run single.

Logan Winckler had two hits for Tabor. Riley Rothdschadl allowed only three hits over 6 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts.

Keaton Rohlfs and Peyton Osborn each doubled for Redfield. Rohlfs took the loss despite allowing only three hits in six innings.

Ty Trometer scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to push Elk Point-Jefferson past Dell Rapids. The loss snapped a 28-game winning streak for Dell Rapids.

Trometer had two hits and Tayson Swatek doubled and drove in two runs for EPJ.

Mason Stubbe had two hits, Aiden Boechler tripled and Jack Henry and CJ Smith each doubled for Dell Rapids.

Central Plains Regional

Pairings have been finalized for the Central Plains American Legion Baseball Regional that is scheduled for run Wednesday through Sunday at Fitzgerald Stadium in Rapid City.

The tourney champion advances the American Legion World Series Aug. 10-15 in Shelby, N.C.

Wednesday's games included Lincoln (Neb.) Post 3 vs. Williston N.D., 9:30 a.m.; Eden Prairie (Minn.) vs. Fargo (N.D.) Post 2, noon; South Dakota state Class A champion Harrisburg Gold Post 45 (25-13) vs. St. Michael (Minn.) Mikes, 3:30 p.m.; and Elkhorn-Waterloo (Neb.) vs. host Rapid City Post 22 (47-23), 6:15 p.m.
