Scherzer is worth paying up for Friday. The Giants don’t strike out much, but their offense has been really struggling of late, and AT&T is one of the best pitcher’s parks in baseball. Scherzer has a 15.2 SwStr% this season that ranks second among starters (Clayton Kershaw is first)…The Angels also don’t strike out much, but Porcello quietly owns a 4.5:1 K:BB ratio on the season. With baseball’s best offense facing one of the league’s worst pitchers in Tim Lincecum, Boston is big favorites (-170) Friday.
Gattis has an .867 OPS against lefties this season and is eligible at catcher for just $13…Carter is another cheap option with a platoon advantage. He’s on pace to hit 36 homers this year…Profar and Bregman are two top prospects suddenly getting regular playing time and at a minimum $7 price while eligible at middle infield positions. I had to go cheap at some places after paying up for pitching Friday, and these bargains were obvious choices. Gallo is similar as well, although he’s slightly more expensive at $9.
Mazara, who’s been batting second lately, rounds out a Rangers mini stack. Texas is at home and all three hitters are cheap facing a pitcher (Edinson Volquez) who sports a 5.72 ERA with a 1.58 WHIP on the road this season…Harper has been in a massive slump, but he remains highly talented, and it won’t be long before his price starts moving way up…Betts is pretty much a must start against Lincecum.
Good luck with your contests Friday.
