Dabo Swinney calls battle tested Uiagalelei the best version of himself

Clemson’s rising junior quarterback DJ Uiagalelei finished last season with 10 wins and a Cheez-It Bowl victory, but his tumultuous year left fans questioning if he was the right signal-caller to lead a team to a National Championship.

After several weeks of spring practice in the books, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney now says Uiagalelei has progressed to his highest level yet.

“The struggle makes you stronger. That’s what I love about DJ [Uiagalelei],” Swinney said on Wednesday. “He’s got some battle wounds. He scarred up. He’s a stronger, more mature, better version of himself than we’ve ever seen.”

Uiagalelei, who finished last season with 2,246 yards, nine passing touchdowns and 10 interceptions, is still the team’s starting quarterback as Saturday’s spring game approaches.

However, with five-star mid-year enrollee Cade Klubnik now with the team, Uiagalelei’s clock is ticking before fans will want to see Klubnik in action.
