D2 State Track: Foley earns All-State honors in Shot Put: Huff and Yearling finish strong

ADA, MI. - Three Coldwater Cardinals traveled to Forest Hills Eastern High School in Ada on Saturday to compete on the biggest stage of high school sports in Division Two, facing off with hundreds of athletes from around the state in the MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) LP Division Two Track and Field State Finals.

One of the three Cardinals to make the trip came home with All State honors as sophomore record breaking thrower Elli Foley finished in fourth place in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 3 inches. Janae Hudson of Marsyville brought home the state title with a throw of 42 feet, 7 inches, followed by Makenzie Johns of Cadillac with a throw of 40 feet, 10 inches and Haley Guerrant of Otsego in third place with a throw of 39 feet, 10 inches. With her All State status Foley puts a cap on a record breaking season that saw the sophomore break the CHS school record in the shot put on two separate occasions, to go along with Interstate 8 conference and regional titles in both the shot put and discus.

Coldwater’s resident 800-meter ace Grace Huff just missed All State honors in her first trip to the big stage, finishing in ninth place with a personal best time of 2 minutes, 19.81 seconds. Huff just missed All State honors as the eighth place finisher, Kyla Meyers of Spring Lake, finished in a time of 2 minutes, 19.68 seconds. The state championship went to Camryn Bodine of East Grand Rapids who won in a personal best time of 2 minutes, 11.53 seconds.

Coldwater’s final competitor came in the form of long-distance specialist Lainey Yearling who finished in twenty-fourth place in the 3200-meter run. Yearling finished in a time of 12 minutes, 19.41 seconds to cap off a tremendous season. State championship honors in the 3200-meter run went to Natalie VanOtteren of Grand Rapids Christian who won in a time of 10 minutes, 57.20 seconds.
