D-backs' Ray (oblique) lands on DL

Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Robbie Ray, who strained a right oblique muscle on Sunday, was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday.

An MRI exam Monday revealed a Grade 2 (moderate) tear. The timetable for Ray's return is unknown.

"He's going to miss a little time," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Monday, according to the Arizona Republic. "Every situation is a little different, and some guys can take two weeks, some guys can take two years. It's impossible for me to predict a timeframe.

"I do know Robbie is very determined to work as hard as he possibly can, to get back as quickly as he possibly can."

The Diamondbacks replaced Ray on the roster by recalling right-hander Silvino Bracho from Triple-A Reno.

Ray was hurt while throwing a pitch to Washington Nationals catcher Matt Wieters in the second inning Sunday. He summoned the trainer and pointed toward his right side.

After a short discussion, the Diamondbacks pulled Ray and brought in left-hander T.J. McFarland, who promptly gave up a home run to Wieters. The Nationals eventually won 3-1, and McFarland took the loss.

"I felt amazing coming into today's game," Ray said Sunday. "I felt great up until that one pitch. It was probably in the middle of my delivery. I was letting go of the ball. Just felt my side grab. I wasn't able to finish the pitch. Just left it up and away. Wasn't able to get anything on it or extension."

Ray, 26, is 2-0 with a 4.88 ERA in six starts this season. He has 45 strikeouts in just 27 2/3 innings. Ray went 15-5 with a 2.89 ERA and 218 strikeouts last season when he was an All-Star for the first time in his career.

Bracho, 25, made one appearance for Arizona earlier this season, throwing three innings of one-run ball against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 15. He is 1-0 with a 5.79 ERA in six relief outings for Reno this year.
