Cross Country league finals and more highlight Pueblo's games of the week to watch

The fall prep sports season is winding down and with that, the Pueblo area student-athletes are starting to get into their postseason form.

This week’s top games to watch for Pueblo sports teams include the South-Central League championship in cross country, some big matchups on the volleyball courts, a few football games on the menu, and a chance to lock up a league title on the soccer pitch.

Each week, the Chieftain selects the best home games to watch for the week. Here are our selections for the week:

Cross Country

Varsity SCL Championships at Elmwood Golf Course  

Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023, 4 p.m.

Andres Cura, Emma Vecchio, and others will gear up this week to compete in the South-Central League Cross Country Varsity championship this week at Elmwood Golf Course.

Unified Bowling

For the third straight year, Pueblo has been crowned unified bowling state champions with Pueblo Central winning it all this year. Steve Decker, Avery Taylor, Theo Romero, Jordan Aguilar, Desire Lopez, Trinity Baker, Terra Salazar, Isaiah Bibby, Chidozie Onwuka, Jacob Ruybal, Xavier Salazar, made up the team for the Wildcats. Nov. 18, 2022.

Come on down to Big Daddy’s Sunset Bowl this week to support the defending state champions as they host the rest of the Pueblo area schools in this week's unified bowling.

Soccer

  • Pueblo County vs. Pueblo East at Dutch Clark Stadium Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, 5 p.m.

  • Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo Centennial at Dutch Clark Stadium Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, 7 p.m.

  • Pueblo South vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, 7 p.m.

  • Pueblo East vs. Pueblo Centennial at Dutch Clark Stadium Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, 5 p.m.

  • Front Range Christian vs. Dolores Huerta Prep at Dolores Huerta Prep High School 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2023

This week’s matchup on the pitch could potentially shape up the S-CL standings and Pueblo West has a chance to get some separation in the standings. With only a few games left, West leads Centennial by one game in the win column.

  • Pueblo East vs. Pueblo South at Pueblo South High School Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, 5:30 p.m.

  • Pueblo County vs. Pueblo Centennial at Pueblo Centennial High School Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, 6:30 p.m.

  • Pueblo West vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central High School Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, 6:30 p.m.

  • Pueblo South vs. Pueblo Centennial at Pueblo Centennial High School Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, 5:30 p.m.

  • Pueblo West vs. Pueblo County at Hornet Gym Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, 6:30 p.m.

  • Pueblo East vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central High School Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, 6:30 p.m.

  • Alamosa vs. Pueblo South at Pueblo South High School Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, 5:30 p.m.

  • Peyton vs Swallows Charter Academy at Swallows Charter Academy Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, 1 p.m.

The volleyball season has just passed its halfway point and with that Pueblo West leads Pueblo County by one game in the South-Central League standings with Pueblo East right behind County. Rye is also leading the 2A/1A Santa Fe Volleyball Standings with a 10-0 record.

Football

  • Peyton vs. Rye High School at Rye High School Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, 7 p.m.

  • Harrison vs. Pueblo Centennial at Dutch Clark Stadium Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, 7:30 p.m.

  • Falcon vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, 7 p.m. Homecoming

Only a few games in town this week for football. Centennial is still looking for their first win of the season against Harrison. Rye will look to bounce back after a tough loss last week, and Pueblo West will look to recover from a loss last week as well.
