Colts vs Jaguars predictions: Do NFL experts think the Jags will beat Gardner Minshew?

Hey, you look familiar ...

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts meet for the second time in the first six weeks of the 2023 NFL season on Sunday. And to top it off, the Colts will start quarterback Gardner Minshew, who broke into the league with the Jags in 2019 and became an instant fan favorite.

The Jaguars (3-2) are coming home after a successful two-week trip to London. Trevor Lawrence had his first 300-yard passing game of the season in last week's 25-20 win over the Buffalo Bills, while Travis Etienne ran for 136 yards and two touchdowns and Calvin Ridley caught seven balls for 122 yards.

Indy (3-2) will be without Anthony Richardson, the No. 4 pick in April's NFL Draft, for at least four weeks after injuring his throwing shoulder in the first half of last week's 23-16 win vs. the Tennessee Titans. Zack Moss carried the Colts to victory with 165 yards and two rushing TDs.

Jacksonville won the season opener at Indy 31-21. However, the Colts played that game without star running back Jonathan Taylor, who ran six times for 18 yards against the Titans in his first game of the season.

Can the Jags make it 2 for 2 against the Colts? Here's a look at what NFL reporters and analysts predict:

Tyler Dragon, USA TODAY: Jags 24-21

"Jacksonville has won two straight games, including a big win over the Bills. Playing on U.S. soil for the first time in three weeks, the Jaguars should get the win over a Colts team that’ll be without rookie QB Anthony Richardson for a while."

Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News: Jags 31-23

"This looks like it will be a well-timed revenge game for Gardner Minshew, back where his mustachioed mania started in Jacksonville. That takes the key rushing element of Anthony Richardson (right shoulder) in the early-season rematch. The Colts' secondary already proved it cannot handle Calvin Ridley and all of Trevor Lawerence's weapons. The Jaguars' defense also is legit good against the run and will slow down Zack Moss and/or Jonathan Taylor."

Pete Prisco, CBS Sports: Jags 27-20

"This is for first place in the division. The Jaguars beat the Colts in Week 1, but that seems like a long time ago. Both teams impressed last week, but the Colts will start former Jaguars player Gardner Minshew this week for the injured Anthony Richardson. I think this will be about Jacksonville stopping the Colts run game. Jacksonville will limit it and win."

Jaguars roundtable: Will the team make a trade at the deadline? How much have they changed?

Brent Sobleski, Bleacher Report: Colts win

"After spending the past week-and-a-half in London, the Jaguars will have to adjust to being back stateside. Meanwhile, the Colts enter this game knowing Minshew is their starting quarterback after they placed Anthony Richardson (AC joint sprain) on short-term injured reserve. Those adjustments may favor the Colts, who can lean into a run-based offense and a sound defense.

"Trevor Lawrence will put up numbers against Gus Bradley's defense, but the Colts have the formula to keep it close and possibly pull out the victory."

Dan Parr, NFL.com: Jags 24-21

"Indianapolis needed a defensive score to come within 10 points of Jacksonville back in Week 1, but seemingly turned a corner right after that game, with an overtime loss to the Rams the only blemish on their record since. The gap between these two teams probably isn't as wide as the score in the season opener would suggest, even with Anthony Richardson sidelined, but I'm not going to pick the Jaguars to fall to 0-3 at TIAA Bank Field this season after their perfect twin bill in London. The Colts are frisky enough to keep it close, though."

Bill Bender, Sporting News: Jags 28-26

"The Colts are playing their fourth division game in six weeks, and Gardner Minshew has been efficient. Zach Moss and Jonathan Taylor give Indianapolis a little more run support, and Jacksonville returns home after a two-week stay in London. The Jaguars pulled away from the Colts in the second half last time. This one will be a little tighter in the fourth quarter."

John Breech, CBS Sports: Jags 24-17
