Colts RB Jonathan Taylor out after re-injuring his right ankle vs. Vikings

MINNEAPOLIS — Colts superstar Jonathan Taylor has been battling a right ankle injury all season long.

The ankle is a problem again.

Taylor injured his right ankle after taking a hit on the sideline at the end of a 12-yard screen early in Saturday’s first quarter against the Minnesota Vikings, was ruled out for the rest of the game by the team's medical staff, and ESPN reported that initial tests indicated that Taylor again suffered a sprained ankle.

Indianapolis interim coach Jeff Saturday offered no insight on Taylor's ankle after the game.

"I haven't had a chance to see him or talk to anybody," Saturday said.

The third-year running back had been back in the lineup for the past four games, carrying the ball 85 times for 399 yards over that span, and he’d said his ankle is much better, although he deflected a question about how the bye week helped his ankle earlier in the week.

"I think the week off did tremendous things for everybody, for their whole body," Taylor said. "Not jsut for one specific thing."

But he went straight to the bench after the tackle and was examined by trainers for a long time before going into the blue pop-up tent the Colts use for injuries. Taylor was in the tent for a long time, emerged with his helmet on his head, spoke to Deon Jackson, his backup, for a little bit and then left the field with trainers, heading up the tunnel for further examination.

Taylor’s right ankle has been a problem for the running back ever since the first Tennessee game. Taylor was injured on a carry against the Titans, missed the next two games, returned briefly and then reinjured the ankle, missing another game.

The Colts have treated him like he’s healthy since he returned to the lineup. Without Taylor in the lineup, Indianapolis is using a committee of Zack Moss and Deon Jackson at running back against the Vikings.
