Colorado State football player Kennedy McDowell has been released from hospital

There's positive news on the health of Colorado State football player Kennedy McDowell.

The true freshman was carted off the field at the beginning of the third quarter after being hit on an illegal block by a Boise State football player.

He was taken to the hospital after the hit, but CSU released the following statement Sunday afternoon:

"Following evaluations by the medical team overnight at Poudre Valley Hospital, Kennedy McDowell was discharged at approximately 4:30 a.m. this morning. He is in excellent spirits, and we are thankful to our partners at UCHealth and OCR for their expeditious and diligent care."

McDowell's mother, via Kennedy's Twitter account, said scans were clear and McDowell was "touched by the outpouring of prayers and messages from everyone."

CSU coach Jay Norvell awarded McDowell a game ball in the locker room following CSU's last-play Hail Mary win over Boise State late Saturday night.

"We’re very fortunate it wasn’t worse than it was and we’re expecting him to make a full recovery," Norvell said Monday.

Norvell and players who spoke in the postgame press conference all sent thoughts and prayers to McDowell. The team seemingly rallied behind him after his injury in the comeback.

"We just said, ‘it’s personal now. Look what they did to one of your brothers.’ The love that we have on this team, no one is going to get away with something like that. That was a mistake because that really motivated us, on defense especially. Prayers to Kennedy," CSU's Jack Howell said.

Norvell and some members of CSU's staff visited McDowell in the hospital in the late hours after the game.
