Colorado men’s basketball lands TCU transfer Eddie Lampkin Jr.

After losing a trio of players to the transfer portal in recent weeks, head coach Tad Boyle reloaded in a big way by landing the commitment of former TCU big man Eddie Lampkin Jr. on Sunday afternoon.

The 6-foot-11, 263-pound Lampkin picked the Buffs over a final list that included Georgetown, Memphis, Cincinnati, Arkansas, Florida and Xavier.

In his third season at TCU, Lampkin averaged 6.3 points and 5.9 rebounds for a 22-win Horned Frogs team that fell to Gonzaga just two weeks ago in the second round of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

Colorado’s starting lineup next year will likely include Lampkin at center playing alongside incoming freshman forward Cody Williams, KJ Simpson, Tristan da Silva and Luke O’Brien.

“My biggest thing was getting away from home and going somewhere with a strong strength and conditioning program,” Lampkin told On3. “That’s my main focus, to get in the best shape possible so I can get to the next level! I also bond with coach (Tad) Boyle really well and his whole staff. I have a couple friends on the team, KJ (Simpson) and J’Vonne (Hadley). I told KJ a couple years ago that I’d love to be your teammate one day and he hit me up saying we need a big and someone who can change the culture!”

Lampkin had previously made plans to visit Colorado following the NCAA recruiting dead period, which ends April 6.
