Colon finishes regular season with rout of Athens

COLON — The Colon boys held Athens to single-digit scoring in the opening three quarters on Thursday.

The defense helped propel the Magi to a comfortable home win over the Indians, 72-34.

Colon itself put up double-digit scoring in each of the four frames at home. It started early with a game-high 23 points in the opening eight minutes, it was nearly enough to secure the win. Colon led 23-6 after one and built a 42-14 edge at halftime.

Here are the local boy's district hoops pairings starting Monday

Colon would hold advantages of 18-8 in the third and 16-12 in the fourth.

Leading the way for the Magi was Dalton Williams with 22 points in the contest. Kyle Muntian tossed in 17 points while Dom Mock chipped in with 13 points.

Maverick Downs scored seven points and Collin Trattles threw in five points. Tucker Davis hit a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, Kayden LaClair added three points as well while Lars Hartman hit a bucket in the win.

Athens was led by Heath Tigges with nine points.

Both teams now advance to the district tournament next week. Athens, now 0-21 on the season, will be the host of the district. The Indians will take on Marcellus in the opening round of the tournament in the second game on Monday evening.

Three Chiefs finish in double figures for road win at Sturgis

Colon will play the winner of Athens-Marcellus on Wednesday in the second game. Burr Oak and Mendon will tip off the district tournament on Monday in the first game at 5:30 p.m. The winner of that game will play Howardsville Christian in the first game on Wednesday.

White Pigeon girls win big

The White Pigeon girls won again on Thursday night, beating Bangor 62-24.

With the victory, White Pigeon improves to 16-3 overall and sit at 14-1 in league play.

Leigha Shudell led the Lady Chiefs with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Shelby McDaniel tossed in 14 points with five rebounds while Jamielynn Delarye added 11 points with four rebounds.

Sydney McClure scored nine points in the win, Sadie McDaniel added eight and Kenlee Schrader scored two.
