What Coach Yo said about contract extension negotiations with Ole Miss women's basketball

OXFORD — Ole Miss women's basketball coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin said she is close to reaching a contract extension to remain with the Rebels.

"I'm super excited about that because I think everybody knows I love Oxford," McPhee-McCuin said Monday, noting her attorney has been handling discussions. "This has become home for me, and I love Ole Miss."

Her base salary in 2023 is set at $850,000, according to a term sheet obtained by the Clarion Ledger via public records request. In 2022, her salary of $750,000 ranked sixth in the SEC, according to USA TODAY's Database. That ranking excludes Vanderbilt, which is a private institution and does not make its contracts publicly available.

"We can't say yes to something until it's all the way right, and I think both parties understood that," McPhee-McCuin said. "It's been healthy conversations. I haven't been involved in a lot of them. Now that we're nearing the end, I'm excited. I'm optimistic about it."

The Rebels went to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2006-07 last season in their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The turnaround executed by McPhee-McCuin has been remarkable. Before 2021-22, the last time Ole Miss posted a winning SEC record was in 2006-07. In her second season in charge, the Rebels did not win a single conference game.

McPhee-McCuin, who was hired from Jacksonville in 2018, has a 79-75 overall record. In the last two seasons, the Rebels were 48-18.
