Class of 2023 La Costa Canyon kicker commits to USC

Tyler Robles, a San Diego native, signed with the USC Trojans this week. He appears likely to be a huge part of the special teams unit in 2023 and beyond.

USC got its first up-close look at Robles, a La Costa Canyon kicker, last June 22 at the specialists camp held on campus.

The Trojans ultimately offered Robles as a preferred walk on, and he committed to USC on Tuesday afternoon.

The class of 2023 kicker went 7-of-9 on field goals in his senior season with a career long of 52 yards. He also made kicks from 48, 47 and 46 yards this past season. Robles, the Avocado League Kicker of the Year, also went 27-of-28 on extra point attempts.

Robles has been on the Trojans’ radar since the summer, participating at USC’s specialists camp in June. Robles earned high marks with first-place finishes in the kickoff and punt competitions.

The 2022 Trojans had a first-year starting kicker for field goals, Denis Lynch, who beat out the veteran Alex Stadthaus in fall camp. Lynch went 15-of-22 attempts on the season with a career long of 49 yards.

Robles should be an upgrade to the position. The senior led the CIF Southern Section with 47 touchbacks on 52 kickoffs.
