Cedar Shoals football remains in playoff contention, Commerce's special season continues

There were plenty of lopsided scores Friday as Prince Avenue Christian, Cedar Shoals, North Oconee, Jefferson, Athens Academy, Commerce, Madison County, Bethlehem Christian and Westminster Christian all won with margins of three touchdowns or more. North Oconee, Jefferson and Bethlehem Christian remained undefeated and Commerce won perhaps the most exciting game of the night, upsetting Elbert County 49-21 in a game of Class A Division 1 top-10 teams.

The Gladiators’ defense made some big plays in the second half as Leon Tate intercepted an Eastside pass with four minutes left in the third quarter, and the Eagles were stopped on downs in the fourth quarter on the Clarke Central 11-yard line.

But the Gladiators – who had never lost to Eastside in eight previous games dating back to 2002 – had two interceptions of their own late in the game, one in the Eagles’ end zone with six minutes left and the other on the Eastside 3-yard line with 2:30 remaining.
