Christian McCaffrey completely hurdled a defender and it was awesome

Christian McCaffrey isn’t the type of back who can just plow over a defender, but he can sure jump over them.

McCaffrey, the exciting second-year Carolina Panthers back, had a serious highlight Sunday. He took a short pass to the left, a Buccaneers defensive back tried tackling him, and McCaffrey simply jumped over him. What was impressive is how effortless McCaffrey made it look. He had a 37.5-inch vertical at the NFL scouting combine so it wasn’t too surprising (it’s not the first time he has shown off his hops), but it was still a fun one.

What might have been equally impressive is that the instant McCaffrey landed he had the balance and anticipation to dodge a defender coming from his right. He took a short pass and turned it into a 32-yard gain, which set up McCaffrey’s 3-yard touchdown. He finished with 79 yards rushing and two touchdowns and had another 78 yards receiving in the Panthers’ 42-28 victory.

There was a reason the super-athletic McCaffrey was drafted eighth overall last season, and that pick is paying off for the Panthers this season.
