Check out the Top 10 SJ County girls basketball teams at Week 10

The Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs are on everybody’s minds for San Joaquin County girls' basketball teams.

With the playoffs just two weeks away, teams are duking it out for league wins in the hopes of securing a playoff berth. For some teams like St. Mary’s and Lincoln, the playoffs have been set in stone for some time now while others are still on the hunt.

No matter their playoff fate, these 10 SJ County girls' basketball teams have been thriving throughout league play to earn them a spot on The Record’s Week 10 girls' basketball power rankings.

1. St. Mary’s (18-5) 30 points

Next game: vs. Manteca on Jan. 31

The Rams haven’t lost a game since Jan. 6 and are looking to continue winning in their final three games of the season. They will host unfamiliar foe Manteca on Jan. 31 then travel to Oakland Tech on Feb. 3 before closing out the regular season with a rivalry matchup against Lincoln on Feb. 8.

Senior Jordan Lee will be leading the Rams as she plays her final regular season as a Ram. Lee was recently named a McDonald’s All-American and continues to lead St. Mary’s offensively averaging close to 26 points and over 10 rebounds per game.

2. Lincoln (18-5) 27 points

Next game: vs. Tracy on Feb. 6

Foots were on necks when Lodi traveled to Lincoln on Jan. 25. The Trojans swarming defense held the Flames to a season-low 19 points as they blew them out, 52-19. Leading them were seniors Sophia Gines and Amya Vangkham-Griffin.

The guard duo combined for nearly 20 points with Gines scoring 10 and Vangkham-Griffin adding nine. Along with the guards, senior center Brelynn Brice scored eight points while grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds. Lincoln will now focus on its biggest challenge of the season, St. Mary’s.

3. Manteca (20-4) 21 points

Next game: at St. Mary’s on Jan. 31

The Buffaloes stood on business upsetting East Union on Jan. 25. Their 53-47 victory over the Lancers puts them tied for first place in the Valley Oak League with East Union. The star of that game was senior Jada Ikharo.

Ikharo scored a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds to help Manteca secure the win after losing to the Lancers earlier this season. The Buffaloes will have to remain perfect for the rest of VOL play to possibly tie with East Union for the league championship. Before that another big test will come on Jan. 31 taking on No. 2 SJS-ranked St. Mary’s.

4. East Union (21-4) 22 points

Next game: at Central Catholic on Feb. 1

Sharing the VOL league championship was not a part of the Lancers' plan this season. With them being tied with Manteca for first place, having the title to themselves is no longer in the plans, but a playoff berth is. The Lancers are currently ranked No. 14 in the SJS and are shoo-ins for the SJS Division 3 bracket.

They will have to get past some more VOL foes before that as they have upcoming matchups against Oakdale and Central Catholic this week. These league games will give East Union’s star player Nylah Dyson a chance to get back into her rhythm after being held to just 11 points against Manteca.

5. Escalon (20-2) 19 points

Next game: at Ripon on Feb. 1

Trans Valley League play has been tough for the Cougars who sit in third place with a 5-2 league record. They have lost to Hughson and Riverbank, their only two losses of the season. With the TVL only qualifying the top three teams to the SJS playoffs, Escalon can not afford to lose any more league games.

The Cougars will need senior Sammy Lang to continue to shine for them as they will take on crosstown rivals Ripon and Ripon Christian this week. Lang is averaging close to 16 points and seven boards per game leading her team in both stats.

6. Lodi (14-10) 14 points

Next up: at Tracy on Feb. 1

Lodi has had an up-and-down week since the Week 9 rankings. The Flames suffered a tough loss against Lincoln on Jan. 25 scoring just 19 points against the Trojans. Their net game was a refresher though taking down Kimball 62-50 on Jan. 26.

They are hoping to carry that success over into TCAL play as they host their senior night against Tracy on Feb. 1. Lodi holds a 4-2 league record and has secured third place in the TCAL behind St. Mary’s and Lincoln. An SJS Division 1 playoff berth is just two games away for the Flames.

7. Kimball (14-8) 13 points

Next game: at Sierra on Feb. 1

The Jaguars just didn’t have enough to pull off a big win over Lodi on Jan. 26. Sophomore Emma Coronado did all she could do, scoring 19 points while shooting 67% from the field. Her solid outing wasn’t enough as the Jaguars fell to 14-8 overall.

In the VOL, Kimball is currently in third place and just a game away from first-place teams East Union and Manteca. Coronado and the Jaguars still have a shot at winning league with upcoming games against both teams. If Kimball can upset both the Lancers and Buffalos it could snatch the VOL championship right from under them.

8. Stagg (15-9) 10 points

Next game: at McNair on Feb. 1

Stagg has gone unscathed in San Joaquin Athletic Association play as it holds a perfect 10-0 record. Its next matchup will determine if the SJAA championship is all theirs or if they’ll have to share it with McNair.

Last time these two league foes met, the game went to overtime with the Delta Queens coming away with a 73-66 victory. Senior Jameelah Pharms dropped a whopping 41 points to put the Eagles leading her team to victory as usual. Pharms will need another stellar performance to hold McNair off once more.

9. Mountain House (16-8) 6 points

Next game: at Pacheco on Feb. 1

The Mustangs are at least three games ahead of their Western Athletic Conference opponents holding a perfect 10-0 record. Leading them is junior Jariah Indalecio, a guard with a hot hand throughout WAC play. She is currently averaging 15.3 points per game while shooting 45% from the field.

In one of their most recent wins against Johansen, Indalecio did it all. The 5-foot-10 guard scored 23 of the Mustangs' 38 points leading them to a 38-31 win over the Vikings. She will look to lead her team to a perfect league record and a WAC championship.

10. Lathrop (17-8) 4 points

Next up: vs. Johansen on Feb. 1

The Spartans hold a 7-3 WAC record and sit in second place behind Mountain House. Their three losses have come against the Mustangs, Ceres and upcoming opponent Johansen. Lathrop is hoping to avenge each one of those losses to better its chance of making the SJS Division 3 playoffs.

When Lathrop last played Johansen on Jan. 15, its lead scorer Tatiana Lowery was held to just two points. The senior guard typically averages close to 11 points per game while shooting close to 40% from the field. If the Spartans want to beat the Vikings this go-round, Lowery will need to match her average.

On the bubble: Sierra, McNair, Ripon Christian
