After a brutal start to the second half, the New York Yankees offense finally woke up as they avoided a sweep against the Tampa Bay Rays with a 7-2 victory on Wednesday night in the Bronx.

Both Anthony Volpe and Giancarlo Stanton homered in part of a five-run third inning off Rays' ace Shane McClanahan, giving plenty of run support for Gerrit Cole who earned his 10th victory of the 2023 season.

Now facing a crucial four-game series versus the Houston Astros, Friday's Yankees-Astros contest at 7:05 p.m. at Yankee Stadium will stream on Amazon Prime Video. It begins with a pre-game show that starts at 6:30 p.m.

As of now, the Yankees are still riding with Luis Severino to make the start Friday night. The 29-year-old recently called himself the "worst pitcher in the game" after his second shortest start of the season last Sunday evening. There's been reports that the team could skip Severino's spot and move him to the bullpen for the foreseeable future.

For the Astros, they'll have Hunter Brown on the bump who is 7-7 with a 4.12 ERA in 2023. He earned his first victory in over a month his last time out in Houston's 17-4 victory over the Rays on July 29.
