In ESPN's latest women's basketball bracketology released Tuesday, Louisville was one of nine ACC teams projected to make the NCAA Tournament.

U of L was listed as a first-round host and a No. 3 seed. The ACC's nine teams, five of which are projected to be a 5 seed or better, tied with the SEC for most nationally.

Cardinals coach Jeff Walz attributed the ACC's raised level of competition to the transfer portal.

"You graduate some players, and all of a sudden, you might have a year to count on some freshmen, so it's really going to be some uncertainty because you're throwing freshmen in here. Now all of a sudden, you can go out and fill in two or three transfer kids that have the experience," Walz said. "So now, instead of having three freshmen start, you have only one or two, and then you're bringing in a fifth-year kid. So, recruiting has been a big part of it."

Three new Cardinals starters joined the team via the transfer portal. All have made the ACC better and will try to help Louisville rebound Thursday at Boston College after a last-second loss to Syracuse.

Road wins have been hard to come by lately for the Cardinals, who have lost three straight away from the KFC Yum! Center: to then-No. 24 North Carolina, No. 3 N.C. State and No. 23 Syracuse.
