Chad Morris expected to return to Dabo Swinney's Clemson football staff as offensive analyst

A familiar face is back with Clemson football. Former Tigers offensive coordinator Chad Morris is expected to join the staff in a volunteer consulting role, a team spokesman confirmed to the Greenville News Wednesday.

Morris was on coach Dabo Swinney's staff from 2011-14 before leaving to become coach at SMU for three seasons. He moved on to coach at Arkansas for less than two seasons before being fired in 2019, then went to coach Allen High School in the Dallas area. He left Allen for his most recent stop as an offensive analyst at South Florida in 2021.

Clemson won the 2011 ACC title and won at least 10 games in each of Morris' four seasons. His offenses ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring and total offense in 2012 and 2013 with Tajh Boyd at quarterback.

The volunteer offensive consulting role would be similar to what Ted Roof did with Clemson in 2021, the team spokesman said. After a more than three-decade career in which he coached at 13 different schools in various roles, Roof came on as an analyst on Brent Venables' defensive staff at Clemson. He is now on Venables' Oklahoma staff as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
