Central girls gymnastics take home 14th state title, boys finish sixth in El Paso
The San Angelo Central girls gymnastics team won their sixth consecutive and 14th overall state title, while the boys team placed sixth at El Paso Bel Air High School on Saturday.
The Lady Cats beat out Rockwall High School for the top spot after scoring 117.850 points on the first day and 115.925 on the second for a total of 233.775.
Kara Baker led the way in the All-Around category finishing third with 78.025 points, which was .125 out of first place. Caroline Steele was the next highest finisher in seventh with 76.250 points, while McKinley Nile finished with 75.100, 14th in All-Around.
The Bobcats' sixth-place finish was one spot ahead of Odessa Permian and was 21.800 points behind the state title winners Rockwall High School.
Senior Logan Kypfer was the highest finisher for Central in the All-Around category finishing the two-day meet with 108.600 points, which was good for eighth. Junior Eli Soto was 14th in the All-Around at 104.950 and senior Tyler Duncan finished 25th with 101.050 points while recovering from an ankle injury he suffered earlier in the week.
The Bobcats sixth-place finish was one spot higher than last year's seventh-place finish.
