Hayden LaPointe voted Cheboygan Daily Tribune's Athlete of the Week for Jan. 15-20
CHEBOYGAN – Cheboygan wrestler Hayden LaPointe has been voted the Cheboygan Daily Tribune’s Athlete of the Week for Jan. 15-20.
LaPointe recorded 38.16 percent of the total vote, which edged out Inland Lakes wrestler Wyatt Hanel, who was second with 36.31 percent of the vote.
Voting began on Tuesday morning and closed on Thursday night. Over 1,700 votes were cast during the period. Next week’s Athlete of the Week nominees will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
Here were last week’s nominees:
Hayden LaPointe, Cheboygan Wrestling – Finished a perfect 5-0 in the 175-pound weight class at the Mancelona Invitational.
Wyatt Hanel, Inland Lakes Wrestling – Captured first place in the 126-pound weight class at the Mio Thunderbolt Invitational. Finished 4-0 with three pins.
Kerry-Ann Ming, Mackinaw City Girls Basketball – Finished with eight points, five rebounds, three steals and a block in a win over Petoskey St. Michael.
Billy Gasch, Onaway Wrestling – Took eighth place in a strong 215-pound weight class at the Mio Thunderbolt Invitational.
Laith Griffith, Pellston Boys Basketball – Scored 14 points in a game against Central Lake.
