Caravel tops 24-team field as DIAA Girls Basketball Tournament bracket is released

Caravel earned the No. 1 seed when the 24-team bracket for the DIAA Girls Basketball Tournament was released Friday.

The tournament tips off Wednesday with eight first-round games, all starting at 7 p.m. on the home court of the higher-seeded teams.

The eight highest seeds earned first-round byes and will play at home in the second round at 7 p.m. Friday, March 1. The Buccaneers (16-3) will play host to the Lake Forest-Odessa winner.

The quarterfinals will be played on Monday, March 4 at sites and times to be determined.

The Carpenter Center will host the semifinals on Wednesday, March 6, with the first game set for 6:30 p.m. and the second game at 8.

Then Delaware’s high school basketball season wraps up with a championship tripleheader on Saturday, March 9 at the Carpenter Center.

The DIAA Unified Basketball final will tip off at noon, followed by the girls final at 2. Then the arena will be cleared and a separate ticket will be required for the boys championship game at 6.
