Captains stop South Bend in 10th inning

Jul. 28—The Captains, sparked by Johnathan Rodriguez's bat for the second game in a row, scored twice in the 10th inning to win, 4-2, on July 28 at South Bend.

Rodriguez homered for the second straight night in the sixth inning to give Lake County a 2-1 lead.

The Cubs tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the eighth, and the game went to extra innings.

In the 10th, Alexfri Planez singled in the go-ahead run for the Captains. Then Rodriguez singled in an insurance run for a two-run lead.

Rodriguez finished 3-for-5. He has 13 home runs and 39 RBI for the season. Planez also has 39 RBI.

Joe Naranjo drove in the Captains' first run in the fifth inning. He has 40 RBI.

Lake County starter Rodney Boone went 4 2/3 innings. He gave up one run, struck out one and walked three.

The Captains (50-41) have won two of the first three games of the series. Aaron Davenport (2-5, 4.64 ERA) gets the start when the series resumes July 29 at South Bend.
