Canton alum and former athletics director set to take over boys basketball program

Jon Grzanich will be named the new Canton head boys basketball coach, pending approval at Monday's school board meeting.

His hiring will be "effective immediately," according to the agenda for the board meeting. Grzanich, who will teach physical education starting in the fall, comes to the Fulton County school following six seasons at East Peoria.

The 1987 Canton grad led the Raiders to a 19-win season in 2023, while producing the program's first Class 3A regional title appearance since 2010. He also served as the school's athletics director and dean of students.

Grzanich was the Canton AD for eight years and previously was a freshmen basketball and golf coach. His coaching career includes nine seasons, seven as head coach, at Spoon River College as well as four years as an assistant coach at the Burlington, Iowa-based Southeastern Community College.

Former Deer Creek-Mackinaw head coach Jarrett Brown will take over for Grzanich at East Peoria, pending board approval at its Monday meeting.
