Caitlin Clark on LSU-Iowa March Madness rematch: 'It's so good for women's basketball'

With LSU and Iowa's wins in the Sweet 16 on Saturday, a rematch between women's college basketball superstars Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark awaits in the Elite Eight.

Last season, the Tigers defeated the Hawkeyes in the most-watched women's college basketball national championship game ever. Now, they face again for a spot back in the Final Four.

LSU and Iowa's rematch isn't without controversy, however, as Reese made headlines last season for taunting Clark in the final moments of the national championship with the Tigers all but securing the win.

Reese and Clark have since put that rivalry to rest, as both players have been outspoken supporters of each other. After Iowa's win on Sunday, Clark explained the importance of LSU-Iowa on Monday.

"It's so good for women's basketball," Clark told ESPN's Holly Rowe after the game. "To be honest, I've watched a lot of LSU games and what they're doing for women's basketball and the way their fans support is tremendous. It's been fun to watch, and they've had a great season. I know it's going to be a great game, both teams are going to be ready to go. It's just gonna be great for our game and we couldn't be more excited.

Clark, the NCAA's all-time leading scorer in both men's and women's basketball, is averaging a nation-leading 31.8 points and 8.8 assists per game this season while Reese, the SEC's Player of the Year in 2024, is averaging 18.7 points with 13.2 rebounds per game.

While Reese and Clark are certainly two of the game's best and have earned each other's respect, there certainly could be some room for rivalry between the two superstars on Monday, especially with the Final Four on the line.
