Should Buffalo Bills trade up to pick receiver in 2024 NFL Draft? Here are four if they do

Pick up the receiver and make him a believer.

Or vice versa.

That's Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane's approach to the 2024 NFL Draft, at least as it pertains to making trades.

When Beane shipped all-world wideout Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in early April, he knew the shoes would be nearly impossible to fill. He also knew he had the 28th overall pick in the draft, which begins Thursday in Detroit.

Not exactly an ideal spot to find a top-of-the-line receiving prospect to team with his team's $30.356 million quarterback Josh Allen.

Question for Bills at 2024 NFL Draft: To trade up or not to trade up?

So, will the Bills try to trade up and snag a receiver they profusely fancy?

Would they consider trading down, to perhaps gather more assets?

"We'll do both ways," Beane said. "I think that's the best way to prepare for every scenario. We'll go through with the scouts the various scenarios that could happen and just play the board."

Of course, there's a third option: The Bills keep the pick they have.

One scenario Beane doesn't foresee unfolding is a Marvin Harrison Jr. or a Malik Nabers or a Rome Odunze walking through the doors of 1 Bills Drive come draft day. Both are projected to be top-10 picks by many.

"I don't know if teams in the top 10 are calling us," he said. "I wouldn't expect that.

"I haven't called them."

Buffalo Bills have lots of options at NFL Draft

There are plenty of other receivers from which to choose. Beane added that if there's not a receiver to their liking available when they pick, they will look to fill needs at other positions.

"If there's a guy I like and I'm confident, I want to go to bed Thursday night (saying), 'I got him,' " he said.

"I can't really tell you whether we go up, go back or draft 28. I have no idea how it's going to fall."

Except if it falls to the Bills trading up, it most likely will be a pick in the teens.

Here are four wide receivers the Buffalo Bills could trade up to pick

1. Adonai Mitchell, Texas, WR

The scoop: Kiper had Worthy's teammate going 28th to the Bills in one of his early mock drafts. But should he not slide, and should their other top choices not be available, the Bills may consider moving up a few spots to ensure they can get him.

2. Malik Nabers, LSU, WR

The scoop: The 6-foot, 200-pounder finished with a school-record 3,003 receiving yards. Had the highest production score (96) among WRs at the NFL Combine. Nabers is considered by some to be a top-10 pick, so the price tag to snag him could be higher than the Bills are willing/can pay.

3. Brian Thomas Jr., LSU, WR

The scoop: The 6-foot-3, 209-pounder is fast (4.33 40) and can score (nation's-best 17 TDs). Most experts have Thomas ranked a rung down from the big three mentioned above. ESPN's Mel Kiper believes Thomas can fill the role of a No. 1 receiver. It's not likely Thomas will to 28th.

4. Xavier Worthy, Texas, WR

The scoop: The fastest man in college football broke the NFL Combine 40-yard dash record this year when he ran a 4.21. A lot of early mock drafts and oddsmakers had Worthy going to the Bills. As with Thomas, the Bills would be thrilled if Worthy fell to them at 28.
