Brooklyn Nets secure No. 7 seed, will play Cavaliers in play-in tournament

The Brooklyn Nets needed a win on Sunday to secure home-court advantage in the NBA’s play-in round, and Kyrie Irving delivered a big offensive performance to help the Nets end the regular season on a four-game winning streak.

In a high-scoring shootout, the Nets dropped 76 points in the first half alone, and held on down the stretch to beat Indiana, 134-126. Irving led all scorers with 35 points, and three other Nets – Andre Drummond, Bruce Brown and Kevin Durant – scored 20+ points.

All of Brooklyn’s play-in rivals won on Sunday afternoon, which kept the standings identical. The Nets and Cavaliers finished the season with matching 44-38 records, but Brooklyn won the season series and owns the tiebreaker. The Hawks and Hornets are tied at 43-39, but Atlanta has the advantage on a tiebreaker.

As the No. 7 seed, the Nets will now host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday in the first play-in game. The winner of that game will go on to face the No. 2 overall seed in the East in the first round of the playoffs, while the loser will advance to face the winner of the Hornets-Hawks game.
