Broncos met with QB Jayden Daniels at the NFL combine

The Denver Broncos met with LSU’s Jayden Daniels at the NFL combine earlier this week, the quarterback confirmed during his media availability on Friday.

“Sean Payton, obviously what he did in New Orleans — I was down the road so, you know, a lot of people still talk about those days,” Daniels said, via Andrew Mason of DenverSports.com. “[Just] being able to see the offensive mind that he is, the guru, and just be able to just sitting there and just talk football with everybody [was cool].”

Tigers Stadium, where Daniels played on Saturdays for two years, is about an hour and a half northwest of the Caesars Superdome, home of the Saints. Payton, of course, coached in New Orleans from 2006-2021 before joining the Broncos in 2023.

Payton now appears poised to part ways with Russell Wilson and Denver has been scouting the top QBs in this year’s draft.

Most draft pundits have Daniels ranked as the second- or third-best QB in this year’s class, behind Caleb Williams and a toss-up ranked against Drake Maye. Many mock drafts have Daniels going off the board within the top three picks, but the Broncos are not scheduled to pick until 12th overall.

If Payton wants to draft Daniels, he’ll have to trade up. The 2024 NFL draft will be held in Detroit from April 25-27.
